At the 29th of March 2007 there was the opening event for the International Indian Academy Awards (IIFAs) in Leeds, UK. Amitabh Bachchan, the biggest and most popular star of Bollywood is the ambassador of the IIFAs and attended that event. He spoke with BNA-Germany in an exclusive interview. Parts of this interview are published here. Mireille Bausch led the talk:

BNA: People need dreams and you achieved nearly everything in your life. According to your career you’re the biggest actor of India and according to your family your wife just got a lifetime achievement award, your daughter has her own life and now your son Abhishek is going to build up his own life. What are your dreams at this state of life now?

Amitabh Bachchan: My dream is to continue working. I hope that I get opportunities to continue working in cinema. It has been a wonderful experience to be in Indian cinema for nearly 35 years. I’m really fortunate that there are people who still love me and want to go and see my films. I hope that it continues like that.

BNA: You have so many fans. Are you for yourself a fan of someone?

Amitabh Bachchan: Yes, I’ve always admired people in my profession. People from Hollywood and my own country: Dilip Kumar, Raj Kumar, Motilal and some greats from Hollywood like Marlon Brando or Al Pacino.

BNA: Bollywood has changed in the last years, especially in the last decade. It became popular in Europe, now even films are shot in Germany, like Himesh Reshammiya’s film debut. What do you think about that?

Amitabh Bachchan: Yeah, well we are happy that Indian cinema is reaching Germany and that Germany is showing interest in it. This is unheard-of, but obviously there is something in the air which people like and we’re happy about that and we will continue making films. I hope that many more people can watch our cinema and give us the respect and the love we’ve always desired. It’s a great growth for Indian cinema to find people from other nations appreciating our work and I hope that it continues.

BNA: Would you mind coming to Germany once?

Amitabh Bachchan: Not at all. I have been there on a few occasions.

BNA: Because it’s said that you are planning a tour through the USA?!

Amitabh Bachchan: Yeah we are planning a tour and once all the details are out, I’m sure you will come to know.

BNA: Do you have a special suggestion for people who want to become an actor?

Amitabh Bachchan: I don’t have any suggestions. I only have... what I feel is a desire to work and really hard work. There’s no substitute for that at all.

BNA: Thank you very much for that very nice talk.
